In October of 2023 I visited Ottawa for a few days, and was invited to sit in on a Thursday night rehearsal with the Ottawa Mennonite Church choir. I brushed up my sight-reading and singing skills in the bass section. What a talented, musical choir!
Everyone I spoke to was friendly and welcoming. That evening I went back to my hotel room and started writing this anthem, inspired by the choir.
I chose these quotations from the Bible to become the text:
1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love.
Luke 6:31 And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
1 Thessalonians 5:15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.
Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
My heartfelt thanks go to Eric Rupp, conductor; Jennifer and Carla, his partners in musical ministry; and the pastor and members of the Ottawa Mennonite Church choir who made me feel so welcome!
My thanks also go to the Cypress Studio Choir for their beautiful recording. You are invited to follow the score and hear their performance on the Cypress Choral Music website:
